The Boston Celtics have wanted to pull off a trade for New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis for quite some time. If it ever happens, it will most likely have to be in the summer of 2019, as the 25-year-old recently requested a trade ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

Davis’ camp has made it clear that if the Celtics trade for him, he would be a one-year rental before hitting the free agent market in 2020, although things can change quickly in the NBA. Davis wants to be a Laker and Los Angeles is trying to make it happen before the deadline instead of waiting until the offseason.

There have been several reports that Boston is not a preferred destination for Davis. In a text to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, his father, Anthony Davis Sr., very directly made it clear that he does not want his son to end up in Boston.

“I would never want my son to play for Boston after what they done to Isaiah Thomas,” Anthony Davis Sr. told ESPN on Friday. “No loyalty. Guy gives his heart and soul and they traded him.”

Davis Sr. also stated that this was his personal opinion and not his son’s. “I’ve just seen things over the years with Boston and there’s no loyalty,” he added.

Thomas sadly lost his sister in a car crash and shortly after rejoined the Celtics and was a major part of a deep playoff run that ended in the Eastern Conference Finals. Thomas was then traded in a deal for Kyrie Irving while recovering from hip surgery.
