News of a volatile meeting between Magic Johnson and Luke Walton made the rounds over the weekend with rumors that the Los Angeles Lakers’ president of basketball operations had warned the head coach that his job was in danger after a 2-5 start to the season.

Since then, reports have indicated that Johnson will not be making any rash decisions and Magic confirmed those reports to both the LA Times and ESPN during the Lakers’ game against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

Following via ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk:

“Yeah, we’re not going to fire him,” Johnson told ESPN after the Lakers fell behind 41-10 in the first quarter on Sunday before losing to the Toronto Raptors 121-107 at home. “[The meeting last week with Walton] wasn’t even a meeting about that. We just have to be better, and that was it.”

Asked Sunday night what drastic can be defined as, Johnson politely declined to go into detail.

“No, not going into that,” Johnson said with a laugh. “He’s our coach, we supporting him, and that’s it.”

Walton’s job has been under question since LeBron James was signed by the Lakers in July but the star forward has publicly supported his coach, thus far.

The Lakers are 3-6 to start the year and put up a poor effort early in their loss to the Raptors but it seems hasty to call for Walton’s job after nine games of getting acclimated to an almost entirely new roster with another new addition soon to come. It appears as though Magic, for the time being, understands that.
